Leeds United were linked with moves for two Bristol City defenders in the summer.

Lee Johnson, manager of Bristol City looks on before the Sky Bet Championship match between Bristol City and Bolton Wanderers at Ashton Gate on September 26, 2017 in Bristol, England.

Bristol City manager Lee Johnson has been speaking to reporters ahead of his side’s clash against Leeds United, with his comments published online by the Bristol Post.

Among the topics up for discussion were the summer rumours surrounding a potential double swoop from the Whites for City paur Aden Flint and Joe Bryan, but Johnson has claimed the rumours were never grounded in reality.

When asked if the alleged Leeds targets were approaching the upcoming clash different, Johnson said, “It wasn’t true, So I think that is the easiest way to answer that one.

“It was all tweets and hearsay but it wasn’t true.”

The problem with social media is that one person’s suggestion or hope can quickly snowball until the media presents it as fact and that appears to be the case with the rumours linking Leeds with the pair.

Centre-back Flint was the player many Leeds fans were desperate to see arrive at Elland Road as a long-term partner for Pontus Jansson, but in the end the Whites brought in Matthew Pennington on loan from Everton.

Left-back Bryan would have also been a savvy addition to a Leeds squad struggling without an experienced player in that position this season.

While Gaetano Berardi and Vurnon Anita have both played their part, neither are out-and-out left-backs and there have been calls for a change in January.

Whatever happens further down the line, Leeds head to Ashton Gate with the players already at their disposal and they will be desperate for a victory to end their recent slump.
