Rangers are reportedly still pushing to bring Kyle Lafferty back to Ibrox.
Outgoing Rangers defender Lee Hodson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Hearts striker Kyle Lafferty is desperate to return to Ibrox this summer.
The Gers have already backed new manager Steven Gerrard with 11 new signings this summer, but the former Liverpool star isn’t done in the transfer market just yet.
Whilst a new defender to compete with Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic is a priority, so is finding a new striker to offer support to Alfredo Morelos and Umar Sadiq.
With Morelos and Sadiq both young and relatively inconsistent, a veteran striker with a proven record in Scottish football would be ideal for Rangers right now – and Gerrard appears to have set his sights on a player to fit the bill.
Rangers have been pursing a deal for Hearts striker Kyle Lafferty over the last few weeks, with BBC Sport first reporting a failed £200,000 bid in the final week of July.
Rangers haven’t given up on re-signing Lafferty yet though, and The Express reported on Monday night that a new bid has been tabled in a bid to secure the forward’s signature before the end of the month.
Lafferty, 30, has Rangers close to his heart having enjoyed a four-year spell with the club, hitting 38 goals in 138 games for the Gers, and he proved he still has a scoring touch with 19 goals last season.
Now, defender Lee Hodson – who left Rangers for St Mirren today – has told BBC Sport that he thinks international teammate Lafferty is ‘dying’ to re-sign for Rangers, with the Northern Irishman adding that he thinks Lafferty would excel if he does re-sign for Rangers.
“He’s a goalscorer. He’s a Rangers man through and through,” said Hodson. “I know Kyle will be dying to get back to Rangers and if that opportunity comes I know he will do well there and score goals for the club,” he added.
