Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers pulled off a coup by signing Bruno Alves.
Speaking to The Record, Rangers right-back Lee Hodson has heralded the “top class” Bruno Alves and believes his experience can be huge for the team this season.
Rangers pulled off quite a coup by signing the 35-year-old defender who, in addition to spells with Fenerbahce, Porto and Zenit, has 93 Portugal caps under his belt.
Alves might be getting into the twilight of his career, but the towering centre-back proved he is still an excellent player if his Confederations Cup performances are anything to go by.
He helped his country to European Championship glory in France only last summer and Hodson says his arrival has given Rangers staff and players alike a “big lift”.
“Bruno is a top class player who has played at the highest level. He won the Euros and has lifted other trophies abroad. He’s a winner,” he told The Record.
He has looked good for Rangers so far but Pedro Caixinha’s side slumped to a 3-2 defeat by Hibernian yesterday.
They did, however, only have 10 men for most of the match following Ryan Jack’s red card and that is where Alves should be key.
With his experience and leadership, the big man must ensure that his team-mates do not lose their heads in big games.
