Aston Villa just can’t seem to get going in the Championship this season.
This weekend they drew 0-0 with Ipswich Town as they remain at the wrong end of the table.
Villa have managed to win just once in the second tier since their relegation from the top-flight and it has many fans worried that an immediate return to the Premier League may not be on.
One former Aston Villa player does not however believe that their challenge is anywhere near over and that rebuilding must be the main aim of this campaign.
Lee Hendrie spent 14 years at Villa Park and the former player told Channel 5’s Football League Tonight programme yesterday:
“I think this season, it’s a building process at Villa at the moment.
“The last four seasons they’ve been absolutely abysmal.
“It’s a long-term thing here. He has got to get the whole foundations back to what it was, the new signings have got to gel.

“I really think something is going to happen with Villa and I wouldn’t write them off of those play-off places. It just takes a run of results.”
Aston Villa fans are right to be concerned, as doom and gloom has become normal service at Villa Park for the past few years.
But as Hendrie rightly points out it only takes one good run of games to push a team into play-off contention in this league.
Villa have the players to do that and if they can start turning some of these draws into wins there is no doubt they will be in the running come the end of the campaign.
