Lee Hendrie has waxed lyrical about Leeds’ 3-2 win at Aston Villa by stating they are the ‘best team’ he has seen this season, but he did question their goalkeeper, Bailey Peacock-Farrell.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side were losing 2-0 at halftime, but three goals after the break, including a stoppage-time winner from Kemar Roofe, ensured Leeds remained top of the Championship table for Christmas.

The Yorkshire club now have a six-point lead over third-placed West Brom heading into a crucial festive period for the promotion-chasers.

Former Villa midfielder Hendrie claimed that Leeds proved that they are ‘streets ahead’ of their weekend opponents, but he did question one Bielsa player after the match.

“They are the best team I have seen this season so far,” Hendrie told Sky Sports Football during their coverage of Aston Villa v Leeds on 23/12/2018 at 3:50 pm. “They really are, everything about them.

“Question mark on the goalkeeper at times. I just think if maybe his experience is not enough for that side, but I think if they bring another keeper in and maybe a few more additions to that team.

“I think they have so much going forward, in possession, their energy is absolutely immense for 90 plus minutes. You have seen a Villa side there. That just shows they are streets ahead from Villa and Leeds.”

Peacock-Farrell has played 22 games in between the sticks for Leeds during this campaign, conceding 20 goals and securing nine clean sheets for his side – Chelsea loanee Jamal Blackman suffered a broken tibia in November and has returned to his parent club.

Only Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough, who are sitting in fourth place, have a leaner defence than the Championship leaders with 16 goals conceded from their 23 matches.

Leeds can extend their lead at the top of the table when they host Blackburn Rovers on Boxing Day before they round off the year with another home tie against Hull City.
