Aston Villa will be looking to put their first points on the board when they play their second home game of the season on Friday night.
Lee Hendrie has questioned whether Wesley or Jonathan Kodjia are good enough to produce the goods for Aston Villa in the Premier League.
Dean Smith’s side have lost their opening two matches of the season – with £22 million summer signing Wesley [Guardian], yet to get off the mark.
Whilst Wesley has started Villa’s first two games, Kodjia, who was signed in 2016 for £15 million [BBC Sport], has only made one substitute appearance from the bench.
Speaking to Football Daily, former Villa midfielder Hendrie raised concerns about Villa’s qualities in the attacking third and the options they have at their disposal.
“Going back to Tammy Abraham, how good he was for us last season,” Hendrie told Football Daily. “Then bringing in the new guy in Wesley. He’s a different mould of player. And I feel that’s where they are going to fall short.
“I feel defensively very good. Fantastic keeper in Heaton, Mings at the back, he’s solid, but centre-forward wise, I just have a big, big question mark. I just don’t know who else they can bring on.
“They’ve got Kodjia, is he Premier League? Again question mark. I just felt that if they had gone out and spent £30 million on someone who is prolific and known in the Premier League that would have given them more of a chance. The more the games go on. Everton will be a tough fixture on Friday – the games are coming thick & fast and they need a result.”
Despite those two defeats, there is still an air of confidence amongst the Villa supporters, but they will be well aware that the points need to be put on the board just to relax the players.
Dean Smith’s side face a pretty tough test against Everton on Friday night, with Marco Silva’s side picking up four points from their first two matches.
