Aston Villa have signed 12 players this summer, but who has been the best capture?

Lee Hendrie has made it clear that Tom Heaton is Aston Villa biggest and most key capture during this summer transfer window as Dean Smith has secured the signatures of 12 new players.

Goalkeeper Heaton is the most experienced player to have walked through the doors of Bodymoor Heath this summer, as Villa opt to go down a route of buying young and hungry players.

There may be some Villa fans who would be surprised by Hendrie’s comments because they may think someone like Tyrone Mings or even club-record signing Wesley Moraes is their best and most important capture.

But speaking to Sky Sports News (04/08/2019), former Holte End favourite Hendrie explained why Heaton is the main signing for him this summer.

“They have certainly given it a good go and they had to bring players in,” Hendrie told Sky Sports. “Some of the signings are in the unknown, we all know that and that’s something the manager has looked at. He has had to bring players in of medium sort of price range.

“The big signing for me is bringing in Heaton in goal. I think he has been the key signing out of the whole lot of them. I think that’s one area that Villa have struggled with. I think Villa will be okay this season.”

There’s no doubt that Heaton will be taking to the field for Villa as their number one keeper when they take on Tottenham this Saturday.

Even though Jed Steer didn’t do much wrong last season, his lack of experience in England’s top-flight has gone against him, as he will now seemingly play a back-up role to Heaton.

Villa have gone through five goalkeepers during these past 12 months, and that’s not including Heaton, so Dean Smith will be hoping the former Burnley man will be the one for him ahead of the Premier League campaign.
