Lee Hendrie has told The Daily Record that Scott Sinclair needed to leave Aston Villa in order to play his best football.

Sinclair joined Scottish Premiership giants Celtic from English club Villa in the summer of 2016.

According to The Guardian, the Hoops had to pay the Villans a transfer fee of £3 million in order to secure the services of the 28-year-old winger.

During the 2015-16 season, Sinclair scored two goals and created four chances in 27 Premier League appearances for Villa.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City winger has been in stunning form for Celtic so far this season, scoring 18 goals in 39 appearances in all competitions so far this season.

Former Villa midfielder Hendrie, who is 39 years of age, believes that Sinclair had to leave the Villans at the end of the 2015-16 season.

“I watched Scott a lot at Aston Villa and he just needed to get away,” Hendrie told The Daily Record. “Villa were on a downward spiral and the fans got on his back a little bit.

“I was talking to Mark Walters before the Fernando Ricksen charity game about the situation at Aston Villa. They have been a crisis club for four or five years.

“There were a number of quality players at Villa who were under-performing but a lot was to do with 25,000 supporters expecting so much.”

Sinclair is a good winger who has a lot of quality, and it seems that he has recovered his form at Celtic.

The 28-year-old appears to be enjoying himself at Celtic Park and is set to win the Scottish Premiership title.
