There have been rumours linking Gary Cahill with an Aston Villa return and Lee Hendrie would welcome the Chelsea defender at Villa Park.

Lee Hendrie says that Aston Villa have issues defensively at the moment and has backed a shock move for former player Gary Cahill.
Cahill has been frozen out by new Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri and is yet to make a match day squad this season, raising uncertainty about his future at the club.
There were rumours that Galatasaray were interested in the defender, but the Telegraph reports that a move to Turkey does not interest the 32-year-old and unless a better offer emerges, he is prepared to stay and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge until at least January.
Cahill is technically club captain, but that too looks in doubt with Cesar Azpilicueta having had the armband in the most recent 2-1 victory at Newcastle United over the weekend.
One other option for Cahill would be to drop down to the Championship, with three of his former clubs (Aston Villa, Bolton and Sheffield United) currently plying their trade in the second tier of English football.

Cahill came through Aston Villa’s academy, making 30 appearances for them before permanently leaving for Bolton in January 2008.
Now Hendrie thinks that much like John Terry’s switch to Villa Park in 2017/18, Steve Bruce should make a move for the Blues star in order to shore up a back line that is yet to keep a clean-sheet in the Championship this season.
Villa are still undefeated in the Championship after five games, but have only picked up two wins to leave them in fourth place so far.
