The forward was released from his contract at Leeds United and he will be hoping to be a hit back in Scotland.
Lee Erwin wasted little time winning over his new fans at Kilmarnock as he scored on his debut against Dumbarton on Saturday.
The 22-year-old would have headed into this summer hoping to impress new Leeds United manager Thomas Christiansen. But despite scoring three goals in the club’s first two pre-season friendlies, he was omitted from the Whites’ tour to Austria and subsequently told he could find a new club.
That did not take long with Kilmarnock snapping him up on a two-year deal, and his goal at the weekend would have eased his nerves ahead of a vital campaign.
Erwin signed for Leeds from Motherwell back in 2015 but he struggled for chances, featuring just 13 times for the Championship club in two years.
That was in part due to a loan spell at Oldham Athletic last time out, in which time Erwin found the net 10 times, and while some Leeds fans felt he deserves a chance to prove himself under Christiansen, the summer spending spree at Elland Road means he was quickly deemed surplus to requirements.
With Samu Saiz, Caleb Ekuban and Ezgjan Alioski joining Chris Wood at Leeds, the Whites now have plenty of striking options and Erwin’s early summer exploits did not change Christiansen’s mind.
The young Scot got on the end of a cross to help his new side win 3-0 and move into the last 16 of the Betfred Cup in the process.
Erwin is still young enough to quickly get his career back on track. But do not be surprised if he finds his way back to England in the future in a bid to prove Leeds were wrong to give up on him so soon.
