Lee Erwin needs a goal quickly after disappointing start to life at Leeds

Leeds United player Lee Erwin is struggling for form and game-time in the under-21s, let alone the senior side.

When Leeds United signed Lee Erwin from Motherwell in the summer, at first glance it looked like a wonderful piece of business.

After all, here was a young striker who ended the last campaign with four goals and four assists in his last nine league games and followed that up with a goal and two assists against Rangers in the play-offs.

An in-form Erwin quickly moved to Leeds and impressed during pre-season, suggesting he would ultimately work effectively with fellow new addition Chris Wood.

However, eight games into the new Championship season and Erwin is yet to appear for Uwe Rosler’s side.

He made the bench for the first four matches – along with the Capital One Cup clash against Doncaster Rovers – but more recently he has not been used in any of the last four match-day squads and a week after being replaced at half-time for the under-21s, Erwin did not even appear at that level earlier this week.

The player who replaced him a week ago, Frank Mulhern, has scored four goals in two appearances at that level, leaving Leeds fans to wonder what the rest of the season has in store for Erwin.

Of course it is very early days and Erwin has the talent to ultimately become an integral part of Rosler’s squad. But while some expected him to be third-choice striker this season behind Wood and Mirco Antenucci, for now he is struggling to even get a goal – and more recently a game – for Leeds’ under-21s.
