The Leeds United striker has found the net three times in the club’s first two pre-season friendlies.

When Leeds United appointed Thomas Christiansen as their new manager last month, there would have been some Whites players who saw the 44-year-old’s arrival as the chance for a new beginning at Elland Road.

One such player was striker Lee Erwin, who has struggled since arriving at Leeds from Motherwell in the summer of 2015, featuring just 12 times to date and spending more time away from Elland Road than with his parent club.

Loan spells at Bury and Oldham Athletic were mixed to say the least, with just three appearances during a brief spell at the former and 40 at the latter, in which time he scored 10 goals in 40 outings. And now it seems Erwin has brought that form back to Leeds, with a goal in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Harrogate Town and a brace in a 5-1 victory against Guiseley just a few days later.

Leeds fans will not be getting too carried away, and neither will Erwin, but the best way to impress Christiansen is by filling his boots and the 23-year-old is certainly do that, with three goals in a summer that has started just about as well as he could have hoped.

Next up for Leeds is a game against North Ferriby United before Christiansen takes his current squad (and hopefully a few new faces) to Austria for a two-match tour.

At this rate Erwin will be on the plane, and if he continues to score he could win over the doubters and his new boss, being included in the Leeds squad as they bid to build on last season’s seventh-placed finish when the real action kicks off in August.
