Lee Dixon has told the Kelly & Wrighty show that the Arsenal players ‘really enjoy’ Mikel Arteta’s training sessions given the feedback he has been getting from Steve Bould.

For many years, Bould has sat alongside Arsene Wenger in the dugout, but with new blood trying to re-live the Frenchman’s glory days, the former centre-back is now coaching the youngsters.

Arteta is trying to implement his own style on Arsenal, with many still unsure as to where the North London club are heading.

But judging by Dixon’s comments, Arsenal’s fans should be excited by what’s going on behind-closed-doors at London Colney even if the picture isn’t of HD quality as of yet on the pitch.

“The training that goes on, the players understand what is needed of them,” said Dixon. “Steve Bould is a really good friend of mine and he’s been in a few sessions early on in the season when lockdown was going on. He was very impressed with what he was doing on the training pitch.

“He said his training is brilliant. The players really enjoy it. They are getting things from it. So, all of that stuff, the accountability in training, it goes onto a Saturday. You have to have it like that. It cannot be the other way around.”

On one hand, Arteta has already delivered a trophy at the Emirates Stadium and has made Arsenal harder to beat even though there are still mistakes in individual players.

However, they have also looked a little toothless in attack, with Bukayo Saka looking like the only real threat in front of goal in recent weeks.

But it needs to be remembered that this is a long-term plan that Arteta is trying to put in place and those within need to be patient about what he is building.
