The Arsenal legend waded in on the debate after he failed to make Wenger’s best 18 from his time at the Gunners.

The Arsenal Twitter account and official Champions League account stimulated a discussion on Wednesday centred around the best XI and substitutes bench from Arsene Wenger’s time at Arsenal, leading to plenty of debate on the social media platform – including a response from one Gunners great who didn’t make the selection.

After Arsenal put the question out there, the Champions League social media team put forward their suggestion, which led to Twitter user @realjoshdawe to point out one particular absence.

Cue the outspoken Dixon to chime in and say he was happy to get his 15 years in the side.

Lauren may have been selected for his presence in the Invincibles side of 2003-04, with the Cameroon star winning a total of two Premier League titles and three FA Cups in his time in London, making 242 appearances.

Dixon also won two titles under Wenger, adding to the two that he won under George Graham, and like Lauren, also collected two FA Cup medals under the Frenchman.

There is no doubt that Dixon’s 15 years at Highbury makes him a major consideration if you were to consider Arsenal’s best ever team, but the significance of Arsenal’s 2003-4 campaign, and Lauren’s selection in the PFA Team of the Year that season, make him an equally convincing option when looking solely at the Wenger years.

Let us know what you think, would you pick Dixon or Lauren at right-back, and who else would you squeeze onto the bench or into the side?
