Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon has been quoted by ITV Sport’s Twitter account as saying that Tottenham Hotspur right-back Kieran Trippier has a huge future ahead of him – and made a prediction about his place in the England side.

Trippier, 27, has starred on the right side of defence for England at the World Cup this summer, and will be one of the first name son the team sheet as Gareth Southgate prepares his side to face Croatia in the semi-final.

The former Manchester City and Burnley star has provided near-perfect delivery from corners and free-kicks so far and will be hoping to continue that against Croatia on Wednesday night.

Dixon commented on Trippier, describing the Spurs defender a “brilliant” and believes he has a huge future with both Spurs and England. Dixon also claimed that Trippier will be England’s right-back for “years to come”.

“He was a good full-back then [at Burnley],” Dixon said. “His delivery has always been brilliant. He just stays on the right-hand side and delivers balls. He’s just brilliant.

“He’s an outlet on that side. His one-on-one’s he is getting better at. I had the pleasure of handing him his first shirt when he played against France, he’s a lovely kid; humble. He’s got a massive future – I think he’ll be there for years to come.”

England are likely to field an unchanged side to face Croatia on Wednesday night, with manager Gareth Southgate so far lucky to see his squad go without any serious injury problems.

An England win will see the Three Lions progress to the World Cup final for only the second time in their history – the other occasion being England’s only World Cup win over West Germany in 1966.

Trippier will be a key part of any England win, with his exquisite delivery from corners making England renowned as set-piece specialists during this summer’s tournament in Russia.
