Tottenham Hotspur face Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday in the first north London derby of the season.

Former footballer Lee Dixon looks on before the Barclays Premier League match between Queens Park Rangers and Liverpool at Loftus Road on October 19, 2014 in London, England.

Arsenal icon Lee Dixon has told ESPN that “anything can happen” ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s north London derby between the Gunners and Tottenham Hotspur.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side currently sit four points and three places above Arsenal in third place in the Premier League table, after finishing above the Gunners for the first time since 1985 last season.

Spurs earned a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace last time out at Wembley, while Arsenal suffered a helpless 3-1 defeat to Manchester City with Alexandre Lacazette scoring a consolation goal.

Former Arsenal and England defender Dixon believes Tottenham are currently the better team in north London, criticising the Gunners’ lack of hunger and desire. But he also claims form goes out the window when the two sides meet.

“Yeah I would say so”, Dixon said, when asked if Spurs are the dominant force in north London.

“What Pochettino has put together, with the desire and hunger, is noticeably different to what is going on at Arsenal at the moment. That’s a big factor in why they’re perhaps doing better than Arsenal.

“But the north London derby is a funny game. It doesn’t matter who is in form going into it, who has more desire, anything can happen and Arsenal will be banking on that.”

Arsene Wenger, manager of Arsenal looks on ahead of the Barclays Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal at Etihad Stadium on September 23, 2012 in Manchester, England.

Spurs have lost just once against Arsenal in their last seven league and cup outings and will be desperate to continue that run as they look to gain the bragging rights over Arsene Wenger’s side on Saturday.

Three points for Spurs could see them go above second-placed Manchester United if Jose Mourinho’s side slip up against Newcastle United.
