The Arsenal legend says the Jamie Vardy situation sums up modern football.

Arsenal legend Lee Dixon believes that Jamie Vardy’s dilemma between staying at Leicester City and joining the Gunners is indicative of modern football.
It was widely reported last week that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had activated the 29-year-old’s £20 million release clause with the Premier League champions – a move that did not, and still doesn’t, make a great deal of sense, given Wenger’s frugal approach.

However, it was reported by ESPN on Thursday that the striker was leaning toward signing a contract extension with the Foxes, having netted 24 times to help them seal a fairytale title this past season.
With the England international still considering Arsenal’s offer, Dixon says that such an instance is symptomatic of the way football is these days, suggesting that a move to the Gunners would have been a no-brainer once upon a time.
It does perhaps say something about Arsenal’s pulling power – or lack of – these days when Wenger’s hand was not snatched off by Vardy following the offer.
