Lee Dixon has claimed that Arsenal duo Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli took Manchester City’s fullbacks ‘to the cleaners’ on Saturday, as he told Premier League Production.

The Highbury legend praised the Arsenal young guns for their performance during their side’s morale-sapping defeat against the Premier League champions.

Even though the home side opened the scoring through Bukayo Saka, they found themselves on the floor after the full-time whistle when Rodri scored a stoppage-time winner.

Whilst Saka got on the scoresheet yesterday, Martinelli will be kicking himself that he didn’t score because he was a constant threat and had numerous guilt-edge chances to put his name up in lights.

Dixon praised the young faces of Arsenal’s side and how it was a ‘brilliant’ performance.

“In midfield, they dominated with their movement,” said Dixon.

“The two wide players, Saka and Martinelli, they have absolutely taken the fullbacks to the cleaners. It was a brilliant performance.”

Mikel Arteta didn’t use Martinelli as much when he was first appointed as Arsenal boss and it did raise eyebrows.

Whilst injuries have played a part in the Brazilian’s want to improve in recent years, Arteta has still held him back.

Well, that’s what supporters thought because Arteta was simply just building him up to thrive like he is doing now.

Martinelli is like a weapon on the ball and his speed of movement will keep many opposition players awake at night.
