Newcastle United want to win a cup competition, says Lee Charnley.

Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez is seen during the Premier League match between Newcastle United and Chelsea at St. James Park on May 13, 2018 in Newcastle upon Tyne, England.

Newcastle United managing director Lee Charnley has told The Daily Mail that the club will take the FA Cup and the EFL Cup next season seriously.

The Magpies have not taken the domestic cup competitions in England seriously in recent seasons.

Charnley, though, has suggested that that attitude is going to change next season under manager Rafael Benitez.

“The players are now hugely incentivised when it comes to the cup competitions,” Charnley told The Daily Mail.

“We’ve made our view clear on the cups in the past but now – and we’ve said this to Rafa – it’s, ‘Have a go, try and win a cup’.”

Joy for Newcastle United fans

Newcastle fans must be pleased with this stance of the club regarding the FA Cup and the EFL Cup.

The Magpies have struggled to do much go note in the cup competitions in recent years, but it seems that they will give them a real go next season.

This will excite the Newcastle supporters, and they can look forward to the cup competitions during the 2018-19 campaign.

Newcastle need to invest in the squad in the summer transfer window and sign quality players in order to have a successful season in 2018-19.

Although one should not expect Rafael Benitez’s side to win the FA Cup or the EFL Cup next season, the St. James’ Park faithful should expect to see strong teams fielded in the tie and the players give their all.
