Lee Cattermole is asking Sunderland fans to ignore the noise and get behind youngsters for run-in

Sunderland are in the midst of their latest crisis with the club available for nothing and Chris Coleman battling relegation to League One.

Sunderland seem to lurch from one crisis to another and now owner Ellis Short has offered the club up to anyone willing to take it on for FREE, as reported by the likes of The Sun.

Manager Chris Coleman faces an uphill battle to keep the Black Cats in the Championship a year after their relegation from the Premier League.

The former Wales boss has turned to young players in the fight against relegation but they have slipped to the bottom of the division with 13 games to go.

Now midfielder Lee Catermole has publicly called on supporters to forget the everything go on off the pitch and focus on getting fully behind the club’s band of youngsters for the remainder of the campaign, as reported by The Sun.

Cattermole said: “I am worried about the club and where we are but I am excited about what we’ve got.

“We’ve not signed lads on massive money. We’ve got them by going down different avenues and have lads who could be a platform for the future.

“I do not worry what a fan thinks of me. I am not going to do four step-overs and knock it in the top corner but I will do my bit to help these lads.

“They have enough on their plates and have to grow up quickly. It is not the U23s and there is pressure — but what an opportunity for them too.”

Cattermole’s comments come after fans jeered recent defeats to Brentford and Bolton.

Although somewhat patronising to long-suffering fans, Cattermole’s comments are clearly well intentioned and if it even helps galvanise players and supporters by one per cent it could be worth it come the end of the season.
