The two formed a strong partnership last season despite Everton struggling.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, former Everton midfielder Lee Carsley says Seamus Coleman needs Aaron Lennon in the first-team.
As Everton struggled last season, so did Coleman, with the right-back’s usual marauding runs down the wing sorely missed during the campaign.
Injuries played their part too, as several niggling problems saw Coleman struggle to find the full fitness that is required for the high-energy game he prefers to play.
He is currently at Euro 2016 with the Republic of Ireland, where his performances have been notably improved as he has been one of their better players in the group stages so far.
And Carsley has backed him to carry that into the new season with Everton, but believes having Lennon in front of him will help that.
“He’s better known for his attacking play but if he can just tighten up that defensive side of his game,” he told the Liverpool Echo.
“It helps who plays in front of him. I’ve noticed that Aaron Lennon works well, a typical British type of winger who works hard up and down and they’ve got a nice partnership.”
It will certainly be interesting to see how the likes of Coleman and several other Everton players improve next season under Ronald Koeman.
There is no denying that the vast majority of the squad under-performed in the last two seasons under Roberto Martinez as Everton finished 11th in both campaigns.
Such a lowly finish will not be tolerated under Koeman though, who looks set to demand the utmost from all of the squad as they try to become a big side once again.
