Sheffield Wednesday dropped to 10th in the Championship last time out.
Lee Bullen, the Sheffield Wednesday assistant manager, has implied that strong words were had in the aftermath of the Owls 2-1 defeat by Ipswich Town.
The loss was Wednesday’s sixth of the Championship season and failed to match the performance levels shown in previous weeks, in which the Yorkshire side had briefly returned to the top six.
However, speaking to Sheffield Live TV on Thursday, Bullen issued a warning to Saturday’s opponents Fulham, having been encouraged by the Owls’ training ground form this week.
When asked about the ability of Carlos Carvalhal, the Wednesday head coach, to tell home truths where necessary, Bullen said: “He’s a tough cookie, he’s a tough cookie.
“We’ve had some fantastic performances this season, we’ve had a couple of disappointing performances. The Ipswich one was a bit of a sore one, where we didn’t really get going in a way that we have done in the past. Shall we say, we’ve had a chat about it.
“The players were left in no uncertain terms… Sometimes the manager has to say it, but sometimes they players don’t need to be told, they know as soon as they come off that pitch. But if we put on a performance in the same mentality as the players have trained this week, we’re going to get a good result on Saturday.”
Carvalhal was similarly positive about the trip to Craven Cottage during Thursday’s media conference, in which he singled out Fernando Forestieri and Ross Wallace in particular.
The pair were key members of the Wednesday side that reached the Championship play-off final last season, providing 18 goals and 16 assists between them.
Forestieri has contributed to just five goals this time around, however, with Wallace yet to score and creating just two.
