The Sheffield Wednesday striker spent most of last season on loan to Derby County.
Lee Bullen has explained why Sam Winnall was absent from Sheffield Wednesday’s Owls in the Park event on Sunday, after the striker’s return from Derby County.
Winnall announced via Instagram that Friday was his final day at Derby, where he had been on loan from the Owls since August 2017.
However, he was nowhere to be seen as the rest of Wednesday’s squad devoted their sabbath days to entertaining fans at Hillsborough Park.
And as far as Bullen is aware, Winnall, who suffered a serious knee injury in February, will not be present on the Owls’ second training camp in Cheshire this week.
When asked about Winnall’s whereabouts, the Scot posted on Twitter:
Prior to last week’s message, Winnall had made no secret of his desire to remain at Derby this coming campaign.
However, the departure of Gary Rowett – Winnall’s former Burton Albion colleague and the man who brought him to Pride Park – looks to have dented those hopes.
And it is therefore little surprise to see the 27-year-old changing his tune – even reinstating the name Sheffield Wednesday to his Twitter bio.
