The Sheffield Wednesday assistant boss’ tweet was misinterpreted by some.
Sheffield Wednesday assistant boss Lee Bullen
Lee Bullen has taken to social media to explain himself after a tweet he posted about Sheffield Wednesday supporters caused some to take offence.
The Owls assistant boss, who captained the Yorkshire side to League One promotion in 2005, posted after Saturday’s 2-1 win against Newcastle United: “Not many days we’ve had an atmosphere like that at S6 this season…. the support drove the lads on #AbsolutelyDeafening“.
Although most appeared to interpret Bullen’s tweet as praise, there’s a minority who weren’t so sure.
And after a thread appeared on the popular fan forum, Owlstalk, on Monday, in which it was suggested that the Scot’s compliment may have been back-handed, he felt the need to clarify his intention.
“This sums up Twitter/Facebook/FansForums …. too many people look for the negative in every comment… NO ‘slight dig’ at all,” Bullen wrote.
“(I) was being positive about how magnificent the supporters were on Saturday…. ONLY BEING POSITIVE !!”
Wednesday turned in one of their performances of the season against the Magpies, who would have returned to the top of the Championship with a win at Hillsborough, with goals from Tom Lees and Steven Fletcher enough to ensure Jonjo Shelvey’s late strike was only a consolation.

Carlos Carvalhal’s side returned to the top six as a result, and now have five games in which to cement a play-off place.
