Leeds United’s search for a new manager isn’t quite going to plan. They’re continuously being rejected by their top targets, and now, the idea of hiring an interim until the end of the season is becoming more and more appealing.

According to The Mail, that’s one option being explored by Leeds, and, in our view, there’s one interim appointment that would make a lot of sense.

Lee Bowyer would make a great interim manager for Leeds if they were looking for someone to take the club forward for the rest of the season. In our view, There are several reasons why Bowyer would be the perfect fit at this point as the Whites try to beat the drop.

First and foremost, Bowyer is a borderline club legend from his playing days. He made over 250 appearances for the club and was an integral part of their success in the late 90s and early 2000s, scoring a number of memorable goals during that historic Champions League run.

As a former player who was adored by the fans, Bowyer understands the club’s values and culture. He knows what it takes to win over the support of the fans, which would be crucial in getting the players on board.

Let’s be real here. Leeds don’t need to be playing pretty football over the next few months, they need to be winning games and the way to do that is to get the fans on board and et the players working hard.

Bowyer does also have a decent enough track record in management. He led Charlton Athletic to promotion from League One in 2019. He has a reputation for being a passionate and dedicated manager, who is willing to work hard to get the results he wants.

He’s also accessible because he’s out of work, and that means it shouldn’t be too hard to get him through the door.

Third, Bowyer has also impressed Andrea Radrizzani in the past. Phil Hay stated on The Athletic back in 2019 that Bowyer was one manager they were considering if Marcelo Bielsa had decided to walk away after just oe year in charge.

“In terms of coaches they like, Lee Bowyer is someone who’s caught their eye (and caught their eye a while ago),” Hay wrote.

“I know they like Bowyer but everything will depend on timing. Will Bielsa go at a time which makes transition possible?”

Now, we’re not saying give Bowyer the keys to the castle, but having Bowyer as the interim manager would allow the club to keep ticking over until the summer and stay in the Prmeier League.

By then, the potential new owners, the 49ers, could re-assess the situation and decide on the best course of action. Bowyer has the ability to do the job that is needed of him in the short-term, and that’s all that matters.

This is one that Leeds should consider.
