Leeds United had Lee Bowyer in their ranks for seven years.
Lee Bowyer has told LUTV that he feels privileged to be held in such high regard by Leeds United fans after his memorable spell at the club.
The Leeds legend spent seven years at Elland Road until 2003 and played a big role in helping the Whites to some major achievements under David O’Leary.
The 40-year-old was an ever-present figure as Leeds reached the semi-final of the UEFA Cup in 2000, and scored goals against AC Milan – a last-minute winner – Barcelona and Besiktas in helping the West Yorkshire side reach the last four of the Champions League only a year later.
His no-nonsense attitude saw him develop into a very popular figure among the Leeds faithful, and Bowyer reveals that he continues to be thanked for his efforts to this day.
He told LUTV: “We had some amazing times. Even when I’m in London I get Leeds fans coming up to me and just thanking me for my time [at the club] and the effort that I put in here.
“It’s nice to meet them and just be respected in that way.”
Bowyer was in attendance at Elland Road last Friday to watch his former club draw 1-1 with Aston Villa and, for the most part, the one-time England international must be impressed by Thomas Christiansen’s project.
United are eighth in the Championship, despite a high-flying start, but only five points separate them from the top six as it stands.
By May, Leeds will have been a non-Premier League club for 14 years following their relegation in 2004 but there is every chance that they could reclaim their top-flight status this season.
