Newcastle United have won their last nine matches in all competitions.

Lee Bowyer has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 21st November, that Newcastle United owner Mike Ashley deserves great credit for keeping Rafael Benitez at St. James’ Park.

Benitez stayed with Newcastle, despite their relegation to the Championship, and the Magpies have already reaped the benefits.

The Spanish boss has Newcastle playing some wonderful football, and they have now won their last nine matches in all competitions.

Newcastle are already five points clear at the top of the Championship, and look certainties to be promoted.

And Bowyer feels that Ashley, who has not always been a popular figure at St. James’ Park, deserves great credit.

“That [keeping Benitez] is the best signing they have made all summer, and for a long time,” Bowyer said. “To keep Rafa there is unbelievable. That’s credit to the owner.”

Newcastle’s latest victory came against Leeds, and it was highly impressive.

The Magpies looked the dominant side at Elland Road, even though Garry Monk’s side went into the match in good form.

Newcastle scored twice through Dwight Gayle, and they were rarely threatened throughout the match.

Newcastle are next in action against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, and they could take their winning run into double figures if they are to get the three points.
