Lee Bowyer will take on his former club Leeds United on Saturday.
Lee Bowyer has claimed that Leeds United are ‘vulnerable’ at the back after he watched their 1-1 draw with Derby County over the weekend.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side dominated the Rams at Elland Road on Saturday, but just like last season, that dominance resulted in the opposition walking away with a point, as that draw would have felt more like a loss for the Leeds supporters.
Now, Bowyer, who helped Charlton earn promotion to the second-tier of English football last season, will welcome the Whies to the Valley on Saturday.
The former Elland Road favourite thinks that whilst Bielsa’s side are a top-class outfit and the Derby game was ‘crazy to watch’.
“From what I have seen live and on the telly, Leeds are the team to beat,” Bowyer told the South London Press. “If you finish above them then you’re getting promoted – I think it’s that simple.
“They are a very good side. I watched their game against Derby [on Saturday] and I don’t know how they drew that. They hit the woodwork twice and missed sitters left, right and centre. It was crazy to watch.
“I’ll watch them more this week, but they have weaknesses. They just bomb so many people forward. As good as they are going forward they are going to be vulnerable at the back as well. But you’ve got to get the ball first!”
This is going to be a big test for Leeds because whilst Charlton are a newly-promoted side, they have started the season in a bright fashion, as they sit outside of the play-off places.
Added with that, their strength is going forward and attacking, so there’s no doubt that they’ll have a go at Leeds, with Lyl Taylor hoping to prove his worth in the final third once again.
Following that disappointment against the Rams, Leeds will be hoping to bounce back with all three points because if they do then they can starting opening a gap at the top of the table.
