Newcastle United scored three goals away from home over the weekend as they picked up a deserved win in the capital.

Lee Bowyer had admitted that he is ‘delighted’ that Steve Bruce has managed to get some wins under his belt at Newcastle United after starting off in a ‘no win’ situation at the club.

The Charlton manager also credited Bruce for the tactical changes he has made as he stated that ‘a bit like Sheffield United’, Newcastle are now ‘difficult to beat’.

At the start of the season, the Magpies were playing with a flat back four, but for a number of weeks now, Bruce has adapted and started playing five at the back.

Speaking on The Debate on Sky Sports Premier League (04/11/19 at 11:00 pm), former Newcastle midfielder, Bowyer shared his thoughts on Bruce.

“It was a no win situation for him at the beginning because he was working at Sunderland before,” Bowyer told Sky Sports. “I’m glad now that he has the wins under his belt. It’s not easy places where he has gone and got results.

“For me, I am delighted for him because it’s tough. I know it’s a tough place [St James’ Park] to go and play. He was getting a bit of stick at the beginning, but hopefully, now, he gets the praise that he deserves.

“He’s worked from the back. He’s gone from a back four to a back five. A bit like Sheffield United do, solid, be difficult to beat and then you build from that – he’s adapted and done well.”

Over the weekend, Newcastle put three past West Ham United, as Bruce’s side showcased their pace and power on the counter-attack.

Whilst the scoreline read, 3-2, it perhaps flattered the Hammers a little because if they had conceded more than three goals then there would not have been any complaints.

Newcastle have picked up some impressive wins this season, more so when they are underdogs, but at the weekend, they take on Bournemouth, who will provide their own tricky challenge for the North East club.
