Ledley King states that Tottenham Hotspur’s previous Champions League results will help them against Borussia Dortmund

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking for an advantage when they host Borussia Dortmund in their Champions League clash on Wednesday night.

Ledley King is adamant that Tottenham will not change their ways during their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night despite having a number of key players missing.

The former Spurs defender also urged the fans to ‘get behind the team’ against the attack-minded Bundesliga outfit because ‘magical things can happen’ if they do.

Last season, Dortmund were beaten both home and away by the London club, including losing 3-1 at Wembley [BBC Sport], with the now-absent Harry Kane netting a brace.

Despite Kane and attacking midfielder Dele Alli being on the sidelines for the first leg of their Champions League knockout encounter, King was confident that Spurs can use previous results to inspire them to victory.

“If you look at some of the previous results they have had at Wembley in the last year or so,” King told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show on talkSPORT on 13/02/2019 at 9:20 pm. “Beating Real Madrid & beating Dortmund.

“I think probably that was their coming out party at Wembley when they beat Dortmund. Fantastic performance last season. We need the fans again today for them to get behind the team and when they do magical things can happen.

“This Spurs team, they never set out [to be defensive] regardless of the personnel and who is playing. The manager always believes they can win the game. A few players missing tonight, but they won’t change the team or the team ethics.”

Over the weekend, Leicester City were beaten 3-1 at Wembley, with the away side missing a number of big chances, including Jamie Vardy, who saw his penalty saved by Hugo Lloris in the second half.

Nonetheless, Pochettino will be aware that his team can’t give away those type of opportunities to Dortmund because they will punish them on the night.

England international Jadon Sancho is one of their star players and he will be hoping to provide an edge for his team with the second leg set to take place in a week’s time.

However, the Spurs supporters will be hoping that the in-form Heung-min Son and the ever-reliable playmaker Christian Eriksen can produce the goods for them on the night.
