Tottenham Hotspur’s Eric Dier has played a key role for Mauricio Pochettino’s side over the past two seasons.
Dier has performed well at both centre-back and in midfield for Tottenham over his time with the North London club.
And King says that he has been very impressed by the ease with which Dier has handled playing in both positions.
The Spurs legend said: “I remember watching him in pre-season in Denver [in 2015], and he impressed me straight away. At the time, I didn’t know he could step into midfield and perform that well.
“I quickly saw he was capable of that and he went on to have a great season in midfield. I’m not sure what position he would say he wants to play, but he does both equally well.

“You’ve seen Eric either step out or step back and make subtle adjustments. It’s a great strength for any team to have, without having to change your personnel. It makes it a lot easier. People rotate a lot more now and that’s one of the things that surprised me about how easy it was for Eric.”
Dier looks likely to spend next season as part of Tottenham’s three-man central defence.
Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama appear to be Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino’s first choice pairing in midfield, while Dier accompanies Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen in a centre of Spurs’ defence.
Dier’s performances for Spurs have seen him become an establish England international, and his reputation only appears to be set to grow over the coming years.
Tottenham get their Premier League campaign under way in two weekends’ time when they take on Newcastle United at St. James’ Park.
