Ledley King has told the Beautiful Game podcast that Tottenham Hotspur prospect Japhet Tanganga really impressed him in training.
King has been instrumental in helping Tanganga break through at Tottenham, with Jose Mourinho taking a real shine to the youngster.
And King said that from the very first time he watched Tanganga in training, he noticed that the Spurs academy graduate had a lot of valuable qualities.
“When I watched him on the training ground, I saw someone that as a young player had a desire to put his body on the line and someone who wanted to defend,” he said.
“I think when you get a young player with that it’s an important trait, not enough young players really enjoy defending.

“He was someone who stood out for me as he enjoyed doing it. The hard work begins for him now, as we have top defenders.”
Tanganga has played right across Tottenham’s back-four this season, and has proven he is comfortable at first-team level.
Tanganga has never looked overawed by the challenge in Spurs’ team, and now has established himself as a senior player.
The 21-year-old has made 10 appearances for the first-team this term, and was enjoying a run of games prior to the point when the Premier League was suspended.
And with Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld both ageing, it could now be that Tanganga’s importance to Tottenham’s team continues to grow over the coming years.
