Ledley King has admitted that Son Heung-min is his favourite Tottenham Hotspur player.
Son, a £22 million signing in 2015, is an enormous fan favourite among fans of the North London club.
The Spurs winger isn’t only popular because of his goals and assists – 53 and 29 in 160 Premier League games – but the South Korean attacker also has a tireless work ethic, encapsulated in a friendly last week when he sprinted the length of the field to clear a ball off the line after 92 minutes of football.
Not only that, but the 28-year-old is something of a smiling assassin and often seems to be in a cheery mood, another reason why fans – and staff, evidently – have taken to him.
Asked about his favourite player, King told a Zoom chat alongside Ossie Ardiles and Gary Mabbut, via the club’s official Twitter account: “Sonny in terms of the energy that he plays with and lifting the crowd off their seats, making them smile, it’s definitely him.”
King went on to reserve praise for Moussa Sissoko for turning his Lilywhites career around so remarkably following a tough first season, and fit-again hitman Harry Kane, the club’s most valuable player.
Jose Mourinho’s side kick off their Premier League campaign with a visit of Everton this afternoon, and Son, who has scored three goals against the Toffees in previous games, will hope for a successful day.
