Tottenham Hotspur got back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Stoke City at White Hart Lane this afternoon.

Spurs endured a nightmare Europa League contest against Gent on Thursday, as having lost the first leg 1-0 in Belgium earlier this month, Tottenham could only muster a 2-2 draw at Wembley to go out 3-2 on aggregate.

The pressure was on Mauricio Pochettino’s men to make an instant response, and they did just that with a thumping 4-0 victory over Stoke City.

Harry Kane put on a finishing masterclass in the first half as he grabbed a quickfire hattrick – though his final goal took a heavy deflection – and Kane then set up Dele Alli for the fourth before the break.

Tottenham had opportunities to increase their lead after the break, but they were held to four – and second half injuries to centre backs Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen threatened to put a dampener on the win.

However, with Manchester City not in action this weekend, Tottenham have now moved back up to second in the Premier League table, and will hope to kick on for the final stages of the season after today’s win.

After the final whistle, former Spurs player and manager Ossie Ardiles took to Twitter to offer his view on the game, suggesting it was the perfect response to the Gent defeat, and claimed Kane was ‘outstanding’

Club hero Ledley King also hailed Kane’s role in a ‘fantastic first half performance’, with ex-Spurs duo Micky Hazard and Ray Clemence also joining the praise for hat-trick hero Kane.
