LeBron James was not going to entertain Tyrese Haliburton’s attempt to recruit him to the Indiana Pacers after he entered free agency.

The much-awaited live podcast with LeBron and Haliburton took place at Fanatics Fest on Friday, but it didn’t lead to LeBron announcing what his next NBA destination is.

It’s been three weeks since he became a free agent, and multiple players and teams have tried recruiting him. This included Haliburton, but it didn’t go well for the 26-year-old guard.

Players and team officials have been able to make direct contact with James to try and bring him to their franchise since the start of July, with Hali revealing at Fanatics Fest that he was among the first to message James before the 41-year-old shot him down by sending laughing emojis.

“I want to tell a quick story… I texted Bron a month ago, maybe before the decision to leave LA. I said, ‘If you wanna come to Indiana, we can make something crack.’ He texted me back with two laughing crying faces, and that was all I got. I decided from then that I’m done pursuing him in free agency.”

Haliburton’s Pacers were in an NBA Finals Game 7 one year ago, but had a bad 25-26 season because of Haliburton missing the entire season with an Achilles tear.

With Haliburton back and the Pacers having a more competitive core in place, James could’ve legitimately competed for a championship with them.

However, it was always going to be a hard sell for any Central division team not named the Cleveland Cavaliers to land him anyway.

The live podcast with LeBron and Tyrese had many waiting for James to announce his decision, but they made it clear at the start of the show that LeBron would not be discussing that.

It’s a shame for Haliburton because LeBron might have been the perfect forward piece for the Pacers to help them return to title contention after the brutal end to the 2025 NBA Finals.
