LA Lakers forward LeBron James reckons the Denver Nuggets have gotten better since the end of last season.

While Stephen A. Smith has already dismissed their title hopes for 2025-26, there are still plenty of people who see Nikola Jokic’s side as genuine contenders.

LeBron is not issuing any bold claims, but he does think the Nuggets look stronger heading into this campaign.

He thinks they have improved, even with Russell Westbrook leaving in free agency, and does not expect that to be a big loss for them.

Speaking on the Mind The Game podcast, LeBron James gave the Denver Nuggets some credit as they head into the new NBA season.

James feels that the Nuggets’ decision to bring in seasoned players has added depth to a squad that already made it to the Western Conference Semifinals last year.

“I think they had a hell of a summer. They’ve added a lot of complementary players and a lot of players who are battle-tested,” he said.

“Bruce Brown was actually on that championship team when they won. They lost Russ and Michel Porter Jr and Deandre Jordan, but they added Valanciunas, who is a big body.

“They have been reluctant to play a backup center, I don’t think that will be a problem now with Valanciunas.”

James compared their strategy to Houston’s move for Kevin Durant, noting that, while the Rockets made one headline-grabbing signing, Denver’s broader approach might prove more impactful over time.

“Houston added KD but as far as the number of players Denver added I think they have had a great summer.”

Lakers will not see Nuggets until January 2026

LeBron James is set to miss the beginning of the upcoming NBA season while he deals with sciatica.

Aside from the season opener, that absence is expected to include two early matchups against the Timberwolves, both coming in the opening two weeks of the schedule.

However, it is likely he will be available by the time they face Denver, with their first meeting not scheduled until late January 2026.
