LeBron James is new to the game of golf, but he’s certainly caught the bug!
The NBA’s all-time leading scorer was first seen playing the game this summer and admitted on his podcast, Mind the Game, that he’s addicted to the sport. LeBron James even built a simulator in his house.
But even as the NBA’s first player to become a billionaire while still playing, James isn’t exactly Tiger Woods. He’s going through the same growing pains as the rest of us.
And after watching a video on Grant Horvat’s YouTube channel, he was pessimistic of his chances at one of the toughest golf courses on the planet if he ever got the chance to play there.

What LeBron James thinks he would shoot at Oakmont
Oakmont Country Club poses a challenge unlike any other, even for the best players on the planet. It was the host of the 2025 US Open, won by J.J. Spaun, who was the only player to finish under par over four rounds.
Its length and its nearly knee-deep rough proved to be a nightmare for the likes of Bryson DeChambeau, who missed the cut at the event.
And after seeing Horvat and the Bryan Bros play the course on YouTube, James named the score he thinks he would shoot around this major championship venue.
He posted to X, “Just got done watching one of Grant, George and Wesley’s Major Cut episodes. Remind me to never play at Oakmont CC guys! OMG!! I would be a +100!”
Seeing how the pros suffered around the course this June, it’s likely that most of us would be in the same boat as the Los Angeles Lakers superstar!
LeBron James’ golf handicap
James is a newcomer to the sport and doesn’t have an exact golf handicap. But in a recent interview with GQ magazine, he estimated what he thinks it could be.
He said, “[If] I had to guess, my handicap right now would probably be like a 20, 25-something like that.”
He continued, “I feel like I’m getting better, but more importantly, I just love the challenge, man. It’s so uncomfortable. So uncomfortable. Like, everything that you thought was the right thing to do? It’s not.”
As an amateur golfer, it’s just as fun to see someone as superhuman as James get back to basics and endure the same struggles as we do.
