Frank Leboeuf has stated that Tottenham summer target, Gareth Bale, has ‘all the talent a footballer can dream about’, as he told ESPN.

The former France defender stated that he ‘doesn’t buy’ claims that Bale, who was on loan at Spurs last season, didn’t want to play for Real Madrid before the international break.

The 32-year-old recently helped Wales edge closer to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar by netting a quite stunning brace against Austria – either Scotland or Ukraine await them in a one-off game in June.

Whilst Bale works his magic in the colours of his country, he is hardly seen when in Madrid and it has resulted in him getting serious stick from the Spanish media.

Bale came out fighting after Wales beat Austria at that criticism, as Leboeuf shared his thoughts on the player and what is happening to him over in Spain.

“He is supposedly painted to be not willing to play for Real Madrid,” said Leboeuf. “I think it would have been stupid for him to refuse to play for Real Madrid, just before an international game when it would have helped him get into a better shape.

“I don’t buy it. There is no evidence that he did it on purpose and didn’t want to play for Real Madrid. He had a good game for Wales, you can pretend for one or two games to do well. But we all talk about consistency. Not playing for your club doesn’t bring consistency.

“I will say to him ‘I don’t know what you are doing right now. You are a fantastic player. You showed it when you were playing for Spurs. What’s going on with you’?

“Because it’s really up to him to get better and be more involved because he has all the talent a footballer can dream about to be successful.”

Bale’s contract at Real Madrid is due to expire in the summer and it’s not going to take an expert to guess that he’s not going to be offered a new deal.

That leaves the four-time Champions League winner in a bit of limbo because does he return to Spurs in the summer, especially if Wales qualifies for the World Cup?

There are suggestions that Bale has agreed on a pre-contract agreement with the north London club and will sign for them on a free, which would make sense because he did return to the club only last season.

Added with that, he is a free transfer, so Daniel Levy doesn’t need to get all worked up about what he does or doesn’t want to pay Real Madrid to bring him in.

Plus, the World Cup is in November and Bale can’t afford to be sitting on the sidelines for several months if his country earns that golden ticket to Qatar.
