Tom Carroll impressed once again for Swansea City at the weekend and is relishing playing first team football.
Swansea City’s Tom Carroll
After his recent performances for Swansea City, Tom Carroll must be wondering why he did not leave Tottenham Hotspur sooner.
Carroll provided an assist for the Swans at the weekend in their dramatic win over Burnley, his second in six games for the Swans.
The 24-year-old is making up for lost time at Swansea, after being a forgotten figure at Spurs in the first half of the season.
Carroll made just one substitute appearance in the Premier League before January, which lasted just one minute.
He was sixth or even seventh choice in central midfield for Tottenham, who have an embarrassment of riches and could afford to cast him aside.
Carroll is a former England under-21 international who is thriving in the familiar surrounding of Swansea where he spent the 2014/15 season.
Last season he made only four league starts at Spurs, and was the target of criticism from supporters who felt his displays were not up to scratch.
Free from that pressure, Carroll is excelling for Paul Clement’s Swansea team which have been surpassing the minimal expectations which existed upon them after Bob Bradley’s disappointing tenure in charge.
Against Burnley he completed 89 per cent of his passes and created three goalscoring opportunities as Swansea moved into 16th, five points clear of the relegation zone.
Leaving North London was overdue for Carroll, and he is making the most of finally being able to play regularly again.
