Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jordan Rossiter is reportedly free to leave Ibrox on loan.

It has been reported by the Daily Express that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is willing to let Jordan Rossiter leave Ibrox on loan, with two clubs keen on the midfielder.

Rossiter joined the Gers in 2016 – signing a £10,000-a-week deal, according to the Daily Mail – but has only managed to make 16 appearances for the club as injuries have plagued his spell. And Gerrard’s January business may have added to the youngster’s problems.

Steven Davis has arrived on loan while Glen Kamara has signed a pre-contract deal. So it has probably come as little surprise to much of the Ibrox faithful that Gerrard is reportedly willing to loan Rossiter out, with Dundee United and Fleetwood Town interested.

Given his natural talent, it may appear to be something of a setback that his options seem to be either heading into League One or the Scottish Championship.

But perhaps an exit could represent Rossiter’s best chance at turning his Rangers future around.

Even if he manages to stay fit, there seems little chance of the 21-year-old getting the game-time he needs at Ibrox to prove that he is ready to put his injury record behind him.

The Gers had so much depth in the middle of the park before the January window opened. And having added to their options further, it appears that Rossiter could struggle to get a game this term if he does stick around.

It is a gamble. But leaving will surely improve Rossiter’s chances of playing regularly during the coming months significantly.

He has the potential to be a fantastic player in the future. But unfortunately, he appears to be running out of chances. A poor loan spell may push him closer to the exit.

But if he gets it right, it could be looked back upon as a defining moment in Rossiter’s Rangers career.
