Arsenal fans have reacted on Twitter to Mikel Arteta’s response to whether there is any movement on a new deal for Alexandre Lacazette.

The 29-year-old is enjoying his best season in front of goal for Arsenal and that was proven during their Europa League thumping of Slavia Prague on Thursday.

Lacazette netted a brace for his side, and the stand-in captain, produced a Man of the Match display.

But when Arteta was asked about a potential deal for the Frenchman – his current contract expires in 2022 – he issued this response.

“Yes, that he recovers today and scores more goals,” Arteta told Football London.

That can be taken in various ways from Arsenal’s fans perspective, that he’s keeping him hungry or isn’t sure whether a new deal will be offered to him.

Whilst Lacazette has scored 12 Premier League goals for the Gunners this season and 17 in all comps – he has mainly struggled to provide that real goalscoring threat during his time in North London.

Plus, he is edging closer to 30 and Arsenal don’t exactly have a great history of providing new deals to ageing players.

There are some Arsenal fans who feel, given his form and age, this is the best time to sell him off for a pretty good fee.

Until then, Lacazette’s goals may well just become crucial in their quest to win the Europa this season and seal an unlikely Champions League spot.
