Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Curtis Jones won’t be in Spain with the rest of his teammates tonight on the club’s official website, ahead of their game against Atletico Madrid.

Jones unavailable

Liverpool have travelled to the Spanish capital in the Champions League, but Jones is still searching for full fitness.

The midfielder is working his way back from injury, and is in training, but he has not been deemed fit enough to travel.

As a result, he will remain at Liverpool’s training ground, where the club’s coaching staff and physios will put him through his paces.

“Unfortunately, Curtis was only with us in the warming up and will be here in Liverpool to hopefully make the final steps to full training.

“Today he did only warming up and then did his stuff, but still individual training and we decided to leave him here to continue that. And then hopefully he is ready for United.”

A big blow?

Jones’ unavailability is a blow to Liverpool, although they coped well without him at the weekend.

The Reds ran out 5-0 winners over Watford and they looked a real danger, even without Jones’ creativity in the middle of the pitch.

Liverpool’s test tonight is expected to be much tougher than the one that they faced at Vicarage Road on Saturday though.

Diego Simeone’s side’s are always tough to break down, and Liverpool may have felt more confident of being able to do so if they had Jones’ incisive passing available to them.
