Speaking on his YouTube channel, Fabrizio Romano has been discussing the future of two promising wingers after Arsenal missed out on Mykhaylo Mudryk.

The Gunners were gazumped by Chelsea for Mudryk over the weekend, so they’re having to go back to the drawing board in their hunt for a new wide player.

Two names that have been mentioned are Rafael Leao and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but, unfortunately, according to Romano, these deals are unlikely this month.

Kvaratskhelia is absolutely not leaving Napoli according to Romano, while Leao is currently in the process of negotiating a new contract at AC Milan.

Leao and Kvaratskhelia not likely to move

Romano shared what he knows about these two players.

“Many questions on another Portuguese player and wingers. We know that Arsenal missed out on Mudryk with Chelsea, so they’re looking for wingers. Many questions about Rafael Leao. This week the lawyer of Leao is in Milan to discuss a new contract it is getting closer, it’s not a done deal, but Milan are confident for Leao to extend the contract,” Romano said.

“Let me clarify as well guys. I have seen rumours with Arsenal about Leao and Kvaratskhelia. Kvaratskhelia is 100 per cent not leaving Napoli in January, and for Leao, Milan would only accept a crazy proposal, but right now that’s not even the case, Milan want to keep the player and extend his contract.”

Tough market

The sad reality for Arsenal is that it’s tough to sign a truly elite winger in the January transfer window.

The truth is that top clubs just don’t want to sell halfway through a season, especially when Champions League qualification and league titles are on the line.

You may be able to snag a player from an underperforming team or land a fringe player from a top side, but the likes of Leao and Kvaratskhelia are firmly off limits at this time of year.
