The Spurs and England man has his personal aim clear in his mind.
Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli has revealed to the club’s official website that his own personal target is to beat his goal tally of 10 from his debut season at the club.
Alli netted 10 times in his first campaign as a first-team member at White Hart Lane last term, in a remarkable breakthrough year which saw him named PFA Young Player of the Year and become a fully-fledged England regular.
That tally came in just 33 Premier League games, giving him a goals-to-games ratio of nearly one strike every three matches, a tremendous record for a midfielder in his debut season.
Alli scored his first league goal for three months in the win over Burnley last weekend to take his tally this term to five in 22 appearances in all competitions and four in 16 in the league.
He admitted that after Christmas he is desperate to re-find his lethal scoring touch from last season and beat his tally from last term to prove that he is still moving forward after such a remarkable maiden year.
Alli told the club’s website: “I hope to find some finishing form and start getting a few more goals.
“I need to beat my target from last season, so I have to make sure I put them away now.”
That reference to converting chances in no coincidence. Alli has been wasteful on numerous occasions for Spurs so far this season, and his tally could already be approaching that of last term if he had not been so profligate.
