Matt Le Tissier has suggested to Sky Sports that Tottenham Hotspur need to sign a better back-up striker to Harry Kane than Fernando Llorente.

The Southampton legend has also suggested that Spurs have missed star defender Toby Alderweireld this season.

Le Tissier told Sky Sports: “I feel a bit sorry for them because I think had Toby Alderweireld been fit they’d still be in the Champions League and in a stronger position in the Premier League.”

“A little more strength in depth is still required because their first 11 is as good as anybody’s,” added the former Southampton star.

“I think somebody who can give Kane a rest with higher quality than Fernando Llorente is key, but finding somebody worth their salt and willing to play second fiddle to Kane is difficult.”

Better than Llorente

Llorente is a very good striker, but the Spain international striker has struggled at Tottenham since his move from Swansea City in the summer of 2017.

The 33-year-old former Athletic Bilbao and Juventus star has scored one goal in the Premier League and one in the Champions League this season.

The Spaniard has struggled to find himself in matchday squads on occasions this season, and it is clear that Tottenham need a younger and better striker than him.

Alderweireld is one of the best defenders in the Premier League, but the 29-year-old Belgium international has had injury concerns this season, and Spurs have missed him.

Tottenham are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League and win the FA Cup this season.
