The former forward does not have a high opinion of current number one Maarten Stekelenburg.
Manchester City’s Joe Hart looks dejected
Speaking to Sky Sports, Matt Le Tissier has backed Joe Hart potentially joining Everton as he believes he would represent a fantastic upgrade on Maarten Stekelenburg.
The England number one looks likely to leave Manchester City this summer having failed to impress Pep Guardiola.
The Spaniard has dropped Hart from his side at the beginning of the season in favour of Willy Caballero, while the Daily Mail reports the Citizens are set to sign Claudio Bravo from Barcelona.
Everton’s Maarten Stekelenburg
An exit has since been rumoured, with Sky Sports reporting that Everton are in negotiations to take Hart to Goodison Park.
Should he move to Merseyside he would likely replace summer signing Stekelenburg, and Le Tissier says he would represent a fantastic upgrade on the Dutchman, who he watched at Southampton last season.
“I saw Maarten Stekelenburg at Southampton and I thought he was under Premier League standard,” he told Sky Sports.
“Joe Hart coming in would be a fantastic upgrade in my opinion, it would strengthen them greatly.”
Southampton’s Maarten Stekelenburg
It will certainly be interesting to see if Everton can secure a deal for Joe Hart this summer should he be leaving Manchester City.
There is no denying he would be a smart signing and would represent a vast improvement on their current options in the goalkeeping department.
It would be slightly cruel on Stekelenburg though, who made a fine start to life at Goodison Park in the draw with Tottenham Hotspur in the opening game.
