Everton completed an influx of new signings this summer, and Le Tissier has picked two to rate out of 10.

Former professional footballer Matt le Tissier looks on during day fifteen of the Ladbrokes.com World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace on December 30, 2013 in London, England.

Matt Le Tissier has claimed in his Sky Sports column that Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford would be his choice for England number one at the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer.

Pickford, 23, joined Everton for a huge fee of £30million in the summer from Championship side Sunderland, and has shone for the Toffees with eight clean sheets during his 30 outings in all competitions.

He was just one of a number of big-money moves that included the likes of Michael Keane, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen, while Wayne Rooney returned to Goodison Park 13 years after leaving the club for Manchester United.

Le Tissier rated both Rooney and Pickford’s deals to join the club out of 10, giving Rooney an eight and Pickford a seven before claiming Pickford should between the sticks in Russia over Joe Hart and Jack Butland.

On Rooney, Le Tissier said: “He’s had a decent goals return, especially when you consider how few chances he’s had, and I don’t think many people would have expected him to be in double-figures come this stage of the season.”

On Pickford, Le Tissier said: “I think he’s been one of Everton’s brighter lights, although he didn’t cover himself in glory when Virgil van Dijk nodded in the winner last Friday. It is probably between him and Jack Butland for England’s No 1 spot at the moment and he edges it for me.”

Rooney has shown that age is just a number, as the 32-year-old continues to shine in the top tier of English football with 10 goals in just 18 Premier League outings including a hat-trick against West Ham United.

The duo will be looking to carry Everton forward once again on Saturday evening, as the Toffees travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
