Sam McQueen has been a revelation for Southampton this season.
Southampton legend Matt Le Tissier has explained how his former club’s strength in depth this season enables them to field a team of similar quality, even when they make four or five changes, when speaking live on Sky Sports’ Gillette Soccer Saturday at 13:27.
The Saints have consistently promoted top-class talent from their academy, and they have supplemented that with a succession of fantastic value-for-money signings.

This has enabled the South Coast side to consistently thrive in the top half of the Premier League table in recent years, despite being forced into selling their best assets, season after season.
Le Tissier, who holds cult status at St Mary’s, told the Sky Sports panel how Southampton’s strength in depth this term is highlighted by Sam McQueen’s emergence into the first-team fold:
“He has that in the squad, the standard of the squad itself, you don’t see much of a difference in the quality of the team if you make four or five changes. I’ve got to mention Sam McQueen because he was outstanding again the other night, coming in at left-back, he just looks so comfortable in that position.”

The 21-year-old was thrust into first-team action after injuries suffered by first-choice left-back Ryan Bertrand and his back-up Matt Targett, but far from looking out of his depth, McQueen has performed so well that he has genuinely staked a claim for a regular first-team role this term.
Claude Puel will have some serious decisions to make in regards to team selection over the coming months.
