Tottenham are reportedly back in for Inter Milan’s Fredy Guarin but how does he compare to Spurs’ current options in central midfield.
The Colombian midfielder in being linked with a move to Spurs once again with Italian media outlet Tuttosport claiming that the north London club have had a £9.5 million bid rejected.
Guarin, who is also being linked with Manchester United, was a summer target for Spurs last summer while Andre Villas-Boas was in charge but the club probably does not need to make an approach now.
Morgan Schneiderlin has been continuously linked with a move to White Hart Lane this summer, and although that move is looking unlikely at this point it is clear that Mauricio Pochettino wants to strengthen his midfield.
The club currently have plenty of options in the middle of the park with Sandro, Paulinho, Moussa Dembele, Nabil Bentaleb and Etienne Capoue all likely to play in the centre of midfield this season.
Lewis Holtby could also play in the deep midfield role as Spurs have plenty of options in the middle of the park.
If Guarin was to be brought in, at least one of the current midfielders would be on the way out but do the club need to be focussing on the 28-year-old?

Guarin made less accurate passes per game than any of the current Spurs midfield last season, and also won less tackles per appearance.
Only Paulinho scored more than the Colombian, while Guarin picked up more assists than any Tottenham man, but he does not look like an option that would significantly improve the midfield options at Pochettino’s disposal.
He would have to be played in a deep role to fit the 4-2-3-1 system that Spurs are likely to continue playing under the Argentine manager, and it would not appear to be a signing that makes much sense.
Whether or not Spurs do make a serious offer remains to be seen but Tottenham do have a strong squad at the club already, and another midfielder is not a necessity with less than three weeks remaining of the current transfer window.
