Steven Pienaar’s goal against Reading over the weekend was very similar to a Mikel Arteta strike in 2006/2007.
Steven Pienaar scored a stunning second goal for Everton over the weekend as they defeated Reading 3-1 to keep their dreams of European football alive.
The South African went on a deadly forward run before cutting the ball inside onto his left foot, before smashing the ball home which gave Reading’s goalkeeper absolutely no chance.
It was a brilliant goal and remarkably similar to one that former captain Mikel Arteta scored during his days as Everton captain. It was even arguably better than Arteta’s strike because he had an extra man to negotiate in the process.
The context of each goal is completely different but the resemblances are clear and something which would have left each opposition manager pulling his hair out at a lack of basic defending.
